Barnard’s promotion comes after an impressive year as McLaren’s Reserve and Development Driver.

During the 2024 season, he made a big impression with a strong performance at the Berlin ePrix, finishing eighth in the second race—his best result yet in Formula E.

Barnard first entered the spotlight when he filled in for an injured Sam Bird at the Misano ePrix in 2024.
